Mostly to keep the metal from going dark. Brass, copper—those change fast once exposed. So we add a thin layer on top. Could be gold, rhodium, depends. That layer blocks air, moisture, makes the surface hold up better. And for bulk orders, it keeps the look the same from piece to piece.
Some common jewelry plating methods
Gold Plating: just a thin layer, mainly for look. Won’t last forever, but it shines.
Silver Plating: bright, classic finish. Tarnishes faster though.
Rhodium Plating: used a lot on white gold. Strong, shiny, and doesn’t tarnish easily.
Copper Plating: reddish tone. Not really for looks, more for function sometimes.
Nickel Plating: adds hardness. But not great for sensitive skin.
Palladium Plating: kinda like rhodium, but softer. Still white-looking.
Chrome Plating: mirror-like finish. Super durable.
Black rhodium Plating: deep, dark tone. Looks modern, more fashion-driven.
